For Advancing Beginners (50–60 Minutes)

1. Breathing & Warm-Up Tones8–10 minutes– Take 3 deep, slow breaths before playing
– Play long, steady notes (start with low notes and work up)
– Try to hold each note for 6–8 seconds
2. Tonguing and Articulation8–10 minutes– Play 4–5 different notes with light tonguing (“ta-ta-ta”)
– Try quarter notes, then eighth notes
– Use a metronome if possible
3. Scale Practice10–12 minutes– Play major scales (C, G, F, and D if you know it)
– Go up and down slowly
– Try playing with a steady beat and clean finger movement
4. Rhythm or Note Reading Exercise5–8 minutes– Clap out rhythms from your book
– Say note names while fingering them on your instrument
5. Lesson Book or Etude10–12 minutes– Work on 1–2 exercises from your book (Essential Elements, Standard of Excellence, etc.)
– Focus on accuracy, not speed
6. Practice Assignment / Song10–12 minutes– Play the music given by your teacher
– Break tricky parts into small sections and repeat them slowly
– Then try playing the whole song
7. Cool-Down3–5 minutes– End with soft, low long tones
– Reflect on what you improved today and what to work on tomorrow

Extra Tips for Success:

  • Use a mirror to check embouchure (mouth shape).
  • Rest your mouth for a minute or two if it gets tired.
  • Keep a practice log to track what you did each day.
